Typical care Pathway

If you have any symptoms related to pancreatic cancer, you should contact your GP for an appointment. If your GP has any concerns, then they will refer you to the hospital to be seen by one of our specialist consultants.听听

You will undergo tests so we can determine your diagnosis (please visit 鈥�Tests and investigations which may take place鈥� for more information on what these tests may involve).听

Some tests will be carried out in Salisbury Hospital, and some will be in our nearest Cancer Centre and the results will be discussed at the next Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) meeting.听

Once your test results have come back, then they will be discussed at an MDT meeting. This is when a group of medical specialists meet to discuss X-rays, scans, biopsy and blood results and together decide what the best treatment to recommend for each patient is.听听

Treatments and/or operations will be suggested according to the type of cancer, where the cancer is and the needs of the patient.鈥�听

After the MDT meeting, your diagnosis and their recommended treatment plan will be discussed with you and fully explained. Please also feel free to ask any questions you may have. This will help you to decide and plan on exactly what type of treatment you would like to have.听

If you are comfortable to, we recommend you bring a family member, friend or carer with you to appointments for support as there can be a lot of information to process.听听听

Once treatment has been discussed and agreed to, every patient being treated for cancer will have an individual treatment plan.听听

Getting to Medical/Surgical Outpatients

Medical/Surgical Outpatients (building pictured below) is a standalone building opposite the Breast Unit.听

By car: Enter the hospital site at Entrance A. Park in car park 8 at the rear of the hospital. Facing the hospital, cross over the road using the middle zebra crossing (pictured below). Once across, turn left and immediately right down the road, heading towards the Sarum Entrance. You will soon see the Breast Unit on your left - Medical/Surgical Outpatients is directly opposite this. 听

By bus: leave the bus at the Springs Entrance (second stop). From here, head towards the middle zebra crossing along the long road running next to the car parks. Turn right at the road immediately after this zebra crossing, (there are signposts to direct you). You will soon see the Breast Unit on the left - Medical/Surgical Outpatients is opposite this.

If you enter the hospital at the Main Entrance (level 3), follow the signs to All Outpatient Departments. 听

Getting to the Endoscopy Unit

The Endoscopy Unit is on Level 3 of the North building of the hospital.听

By car: Enter the hospital site at Entrance A. Park in car park 8 at the rear of the hospital. Enter the hospital at the Springs Entrance and head up the stairs/lift to Level 3, then follow signs to the 鈥楨ndoscopy Unit鈥�. 听

By bus: leave the bus at the Springs Entrance (second stop). Enter the hospital at the Springs Entrance and head up the stairs/lift to Level 3, then follow signs to the 鈥楨ndoscopy Unit鈥�.听

Getting to Pathology

The direct telephone number for Pathology is 01722 336262 (ext 4020).听听

By car:听

Park in car park 8 and enter the hospital on Level 2 near the Springs Restaurant. Head up the stairs or lift, to Level 3 and go towards the Main Entrance. Pathology is along the hospital corridor, very close to the main entrance 鈥� you can follow signs to find it.听

If you have a disabled badge there is disabled parking by the Main Entrance and also near the Level 2 entrance by Springs Restaurant.听

By bus:鈥痩eave the bus at the Main Entrance bus stop, enter the hospital here. Go straight forward, at the end turn right on the main corridor to find the Pathology area on your left.听听

Getting to the Radiology Department

If you need a CT Scan:听听

By car: Enter the hospital site at Entrance A. Park in car park 8 at the rear of the hospital. Enter the hospital at the Springs Entrance and head to Level 3 of the north building, then follow signs to the 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�.

By bus: leave the bus at the Springs Entrance (second stop). Enter the hospital at the Springs Entrance and head to Level 3 of the north building, then follow signs to the 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�.听

If you need an MRI:听听

We have two MRI Scanners which are located at opposite ends of the Hospital site.鈥� Please check your appointment letter carefully to see which scanner your scan is booked for, as it is about 10 minutes鈥� walk between the two scanners.听听

Our MRI-1 Scanner (pictured above)听can be found on Level 3 in the North building, follow signs to 鈥楥T & MRI Scanner鈥�.鈥�

Our MRI-2 Scanner can be found in the Central building and is down the corridor from the Day Surgery Unit.听听
